VaKara M. Meyer Karre, MD

VaKara M. Meyer Karre, MD, is board certified in psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry and addiction medicine. Her clinical expertise lies in integrative treatment for co-occurring psychiatric and medical disorders, with particular interests in transplant, addiction and perinatal psychiatry.

Dr. Meyer Karre earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln before attending medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). She went on to complete her residency and fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. During her 10 years as a member of the UNMC faculty, she developed and led an addiction psychiatry consultation-liaison service.

Dr. Meyer Karre is based at Methodist Fremont Health and Methodist Women’s Hospital. She is committed to honoring patient autonomy, building meaningful trust and creating individualized treatment plans that address the whole person.

“Each person carries a unique story,” she said. “Being invited into their journey – where I can make a meaningful difference – is what gives my work its purpose.”

Dr. Meyer Karre was drawn to Methodist by the health system’s dedication to The Meaning of Care.

Dr. Meyer Karre values time spent with her husband and two children. Her personal interests include reading, following college football, traveling and enjoying the outdoors.
