Dr. Umasankari Sundaram, an endocrinologist with Methodist Physicians Clinic Diabetes and Endocrine Specialists, attended medical school at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in Chennai, India. She completed her internal medicine residency at North Shore Medical Center in Salem, Massachusetts before completing a clinical diabetes fellowship at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. She then went on to complete a diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Her greatest joy as an endocrinologist is simply making people feel better.
"When you're feeling better, everything will go in the right direction," she said.
Dr. Uma, as she prefers to be called, is inspired by Methodist's culture and commitment to patient care. She strives to show The Meaning of Care by improving her patients' quality of life.
"The problems we deal with as endocrinologists are chronic problems," she said. "Every day is a challenge for those patients. By even making one small change to improve their quality of life ñ that means a lot to me."
In her free time, Dr. Uma enjoys being with her husband and son. Cooking is her "stress buster."

Dr. Uma has always seen lots of concern for me. She's always trying to do the best listen to what I have to say. Tell me what I'm doing wrong but then always with a smile she takes the best of care of of me I believe.

Dr. Uma was extremely thorough. Everything she said was consistent with what I'd read on the N.I.H website about my condition. She presents information in a clear and linear fashion and in a way that it is easy to understand. She asked several times if I had any questions and waited for a response before moving on.
