Dr. Tien-Shew Huang is a radiation oncologist at Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center, Methodist Jennie Edmundson Cancer Center and West Dodge Medical Plaza.
Dr. Huang attended Northwestern University for undergraduate and medical school. He was a research fellow at the department of Surgical Oncology at University of Illinois Hospital and received a PhD in molecular biology from University of Illinois. He completed his radiation oncology residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
Dr. Huang grew up around hospitals watching his parents ñ his father an internist and his mother a nurse ñ care for patients.
"It was natural for me to follow in their footsteps," he said.
Dr. Huang's areas of clinical focus include treating a variety of cancers using 3D conformal therapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT).
Dr. Huang strives to deliver the best treatment possible, whether it's designed to cure a disease, relieve symptoms or minimize side effects.
He likes to set realistic expectations for his patients, as well as offer hope and comfort.
Dr. Huang's free time is spent with his wife of 25 years. They enjoy traveling and visiting family and friends. Cruising, seeing exotic locales and hiking in national parks are their favorite ways to vacation.
