Dr. Tom White is a surgeon with the Methodist bariatric staff at 8111 Dodge St. He performs sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass and Orbera intragastric balloon procedures, as well as other general surgeries.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. He received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and completed a five-year surgical training program there.
In over 20 years as a surgeon, Dr. White has been involved with about 4,000 laparoscopic weight loss procedures. While a surgery might take 30 minutes, he said, "you can make a pronounced effect on people's lives."
Dr. White enjoys the long-term relationships he has with his patients, and he strives to provide quality care and accessibility to each of them.
"I used to tell my residents that I only have one rule, and that's to take care of your patients like they're your family," he said. "If you do that, everything else falls into place."
In his free time, Dr. White enjoys being with his family, golfing, skiing and taking part in other outdoor sports.

I felt like all of my providers took time to actually listen, my questions were likely the millionth time they were asked to the provider but felt as if they took time and answered all of my questions as if they had never been asked before. Felt very respected and taken care of.
