Tammy Bader, APRN, has always loved caring for others – whether it was during her time as a medic in the military or caring for labor and delivery patients. But she eventually found her calling while working in critical care.

“As a floor nurse, I preferred heart surgery patients,” she said. “But once I started working with vascular patients, I knew I had found my specialty.”

Bader, a nurse practitioner at Methodist Physicians Clinic, enjoys the work that goes into building relationships with her patients.

“It’s showing compassion and empathy for your patient,” she said. “Showing interest in their life. Showing that you care about them as a person – the whole person – not just their condition.”

But what’s most rewarding for her is knowing she has a hand in her patients’ positive outcomes.

“I love seeing how what we’ve done has affected their lives, helped them heal and helped them move past their conditions,” she said.

Outside of work, Bader cherishes time spent with family – especially her grandchildren. She also enjoys reading and playing games.
