Stanislaw (George) Sojka, MD, a board-certified cardiologist at Methodist Physicians Clinic, knew at a young age that medicine was his calling. At 9 years old, he watched as a heart attack claimed his father's life. From that point on, he was determined to help prevent or prolong heart disease in others.
Working with patients is the most rewarding part of his job, and he wants them to know: "The minute they walk in the door, they're going to find a friendly, nonjudgmental face. Someone who's going to do everything in their power to improve their situation. I'll comfort them at the very least, but at the best, I'll try to cure them or at least control their disease."
Inspired by The Meaning of Care, Dr. Sojka believes it's more than a tagline ñ it's what makes Methodist unique. To him, it means working as a team to do whatever it takes to improve each patient's situation.
"They're seeking help and guidance, and we have an obligation to provide them with up-to-date, best care and provide them with all their options," he said. "Making sure that when they leave that office, they're well aware of the game plan, they have no other questions, and their fears are alleviated."
Dr. Sojka enjoys spending his free time traveling with family, especially when it involves road trips. He is a passionate Chicago Cubs fan and considers himself a "hobby historian."
