Sarah Lane, DNP, APRN-NP, AGACNP-BC, recalls having an early passion for medicine.

“I was the kid who was never scared to go to the doctor and almost enjoyed it,” she said. “Every positive interaction I had with health care providers inspired me to pursue a career in medicine.”

Today, she strives to bring that same sense of safety and satisfaction to her patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic – 1 Edmundson Place as nurse practitioner specializing in pulmonary medicine.

“Breathlessness is a very scary feeling,” Lane said. “Being able to help improve someone’s symptoms and quality of life is incredibly rewarding.”

She has particular interests in managing asthma and COPD, and she’s experienced in using advanced therapies – such as biologics – for patients with persistent symptoms.

Trust, she said, is the cornerstone of care. And she builds it by listening, educating and partnering with patients to create personalized treatment plans.

“It doesn’t matter if you are the best, smartest, most educated provider in the world. If a patient doesn’t trust you, your relationship with them and impact on them is limited.”

After more than 20 years in medicine, Lane finds deepest fulfillment in helping patients through vulnerable moments.

“Hearing patients tell me that because of me, they’re still alive or have improved quality of life makes everything worthwhile.”

Outside of work, Lane enjoys spending time with her family, cheering for her four children at sporting events, being outdoors, reading, and traveling.
