Ice hockey has always been a big part of life for Rosina Schiff, DO. She was an All-American goalie in college, and the lessons she learned on the ice have served her well as a pulmonologist and critical care specialist, she said.
"I was always part of a team," said Dr. Schiff, who cares for patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic and in the Methodist Hospital Critical Care Unit. "In that intensive care setting, it really is a team atmosphere. And as a goalie, I was in a position where I needed to stay calm, cool and collected. Caring for patients, especially in the Critical Care Unit, that's really important. Patients and staff need someone who's in charge and confident, but can also still see the small details and collaborate with others."
Dr. Schiff is especially interested in lung cancer, pleural diseases and advanced symptomatic COPD. She's skilled in advanced bronchoscopy techniques to identify lung disease.
Just as important to her as cutting-edge medicine is building trust with patients and families.
"I care a lot about developing that relationship," she said. "I take pride in being an honest broker of information in these difficult situations. I always try to imagine that it's one of my family members in the bed or coming to my clinic and treat each patient how I would hope my family would be treated ñ with kindness, patience and expertise."
Outside of work, Dr. Schiff enjoys cooking, reading, running, gardening and hitting the ice with her family.

Meeting Dr. Schiff for the first time, she was extremely kind and easy to speak to. Going over my sleep study she explained the report well so I could understand and make sense of the report jargon. I will recommend her for sure she is a great Doc!

Dr was excellent in reviewing the sleep apnea results and concern about possible narcolepsy. She thoroughly discussed the best options for starting CPAP and then plan for further testing for narcolepsy.
