Patrick Ahrens, MD, a general surgeon with Methodist Physicians Clinic in Council Bluffs, enjoys helping patients work through problems and find solutions.

In addition to his role as a surgeon, Dr. Ahrens serves as vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer for Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital.
He believes that the size of Methodist Health System makes it unique in the region.
“The health system is big enough to provide excellent, top-notch, state-of-the-art care, yet small enough to provide care with a hometown feel.”
Dr. Ahrens also values Methodist’s commitment to teamwork, including the weekly tumor board meetings that involve collaboration from multiple providers and support staff.
“Because of that, we provide great cancer care, in general, and specifically to our breast cancer patients. We don’t ever take that lightly. It’s an honor to take care of those patients, and we serve a lot of people, not only in Council Bluffs, but all of southwest Iowa.”
Dr. Ahrens and his wife, NatalieJean, a nurse navigator at Jennie Edmundson, have two adult children. Dr. Ahrens enjoys listening to music, cooking and golfing.

Dr. Ahrens is amazing and I have nothing but good things to say about his staff, from receptionist, nurse, to the doctor I can not say enough good about them.

Dr. Ahrens was very helpful and answered all of our questions. Described things in an easy to understand way. Seemed very concerned for my care.
