Nicholas Distefano, MD, believes in a “less is more” approach when it comes to patient care.

“For example, decreasing polypharmacy – the use of multiple medications simultaneously – and maximizing whatever else is best helping the patient, I find, is often more beneficial in the long term,” said Dr. Distefano, an inpatient psychiatrist at Methodist Fremont Health.

One of the most rewarding parts of his job, he said, is “the environment that Methodist creates.”

“All staff members on the team work collaboratively,” he said, “which provides a family-like atmosphere and contributes to the highest level of care.”

Dr. Distefano is dedicated to making sure each patient feels heard and is treated with dignity, respect and The Meaning of Care.

“The Meaning of Care is about truly getting to know each patient and their story, which I believe is the best way to help someone,” he said.

Dr. Distefano, a husband, a father of two and an avid outdoorsman who likes to hunt and fish, is also “one of the top self-proclaimed backyard barbecuers in the state of Nebraska.”
