For Michaela "Mickie" Larsen, MPAS, PA-C, an interest in medicine blossomed from tragedy. She lost her mother to ovarian cancer when she was only 8, but that inspired her to seek a career in which she could help and care for others. In high school, she babysat for her hometown's physician assistant, and she decided she wanted to be a PA, too.
Larsen practices The Meaning of Care through patient relationships built on trust, communication and compassion.
"I always treat my patients like individuals and not just a number," she said. "I do my best to explain medical rationale and not just, 'Do what I say.'"
Her favorite part of medicine? The people.
"I enjoy the day-to-day interactions with our patients and staff, and I look forward to helping people any way I can," she said.
Larsen received her bachelor's in biological sciences from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In her spare time, she loves hiking, fishing and being outdoors with her husband and son. She also enjoys reading.

Mickie is my favorite provider! I have been seeing her since I moved to Omaha about 20 years ago. I'm so glad she has found a clinic to practice at that she enjoys and is closer to her home/family. Even if that means I drive 35 minutes to come see her. And she says she likes my sense of humor, which is good since my sarcasm is not going anywhere!
