Megan Heusinkvelt, APRN-NP, WHNP-BC, has always enjoyed making connections with people. And coming from a family of nurses, she grew up hearing stories about how compassionate care could make a difference in the lives of others. But it wasn't until she was studying to become a primary care nurse practitioner that she found her calling.

"I thought the gynecological lectures were the most interesting, and I loved caring for women in my clinicals," Heusinkvelt said. "I was also pregnant at the time and enjoyed my prenatal visits with my physician. That's when I decided to change specialties and become a women's health nurse practitioner."

Heusinkvelt cares for patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic and has specific interests in adolescent health, family planning, obstetrics/gynecology and surgery.

But the best parts of her job, she said, are building relationships and empowering women to make the best, most informed health care decisions.

"I want to show patients The Meaning of Care, which means going above and beyond what's needed so we can truly meet their needs."

When she's not working, Heusinkvelt enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, and watching her children take part in youth activities. She also likes to travel and says her favorite destinations all include a beach.
