Max F. Lydiatt, MD

Max Lydiatt, MD, developed an interest in medicine at an early age, inspired by his parents' careers in healthcare and their belief in doing whatever possible to alleviate suffering.

While exploring different specialties in medical school, he was drawn to psychiatry because it allowed him to understand patients on a deeper level and address the many factors that influence overall well-being.

“There are many things that make a life worth living and many things that contribute to suffering beyond disease alone,” said Dr. Lydiatt, who sees patient at Methodist Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Lydiatt is fellowship trained in consult-liaison psychiatry, a specialty focused on conditions at the intersection of medicine and psychiatry. His clinical interests include mental health during pregnancy and the perinatal period, addiction treatment, and helping patients navigate serious medical diagnoses while maintaining the highest possible quality of life.

“The thing I find most rewarding is that I get to meet people on some of their worst days and then watch them get better,” he said.

He believes that trust is the foundation of the patient-provider relationship, and he works to build it by listening, asking questions and partnering closely with patients. He wants every patient to feel heard and empowered, recognizing that they know themself best and should play an active role in their care.

After experiencing the exceptional care provided at Methodist Women's Hospital during the birth of his child, Dr. Lydiatt was honored to join a team known for its compassion and commitment to The Meaning of Care.

“There’s an old saying in medicine that the secret to caring for patients is in caring for the patient,” he said. “I think that’s captured by Methodist’s tagline, and it’s central to my philosophy, as well.”

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, woodworking and reading about history.
