Growing up, Dr. Matthew Weiland always had an affinity for science. He also loved helping people in need. Wanting to combine his interests, he decided the best way to do both would be to one day become a physician and not only help people, but care for them too.
He began his medical journey at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. As part of his program, Dr. Weiland was sent to other parts of the country to study various specialties. He was first sent to a medical center in Dayton, Ohio, where his very first rotation was family medicine. Fascinated by the range of situations and patient interactions he had, he fell in love with the specialty. He went on to complete his family practice residency at Clarkson Family Medicine. Today, he is a family medicine doctor at Methodist Physicians Clinic.
Dr. Weiland continues to love patient interactions well into his career. His mission is to take time to listen and learn about each patient. He believes this is the key in providing quality care, since recognizing a person's unique circumstances allows him to effectively create an individualized plan of care.
