Growing up, Lauren Devere, APRN, didn't have to look far for inspiration. With a mother who was a nurse, Devere quickly developed an interest in medicine and a love for helping others. Another spark came early in her own nursing career, when her grandfather underwent open-heart surgery.

Devere went on to work in a cardiac catheterization lab before caring for open-heart surgery patients in the intensive care unit. She's now part of the cardiothoracic surgery team based at Methodist Physicians Clinic.

"Learning in health care is lifelong, and there's never a dull moment in cardiology or critical care," she said.

Along with the excitement comes plenty of rewarding moments.

"The best part about my job is seeing a patient recover from surgery, progress with their treatment and go home to be with their loved ones," Devere said. "I love hearing that I made a difference to them when they were experiencing a difficult time in their life."

Whatever their situation, patients and families should expect the highest quality of care, she said.

"I want my patients to know that I'm here to take care of them, and their health and safety are my top priorities," she said. "I'll help educate, listen, answer questions and provide comfort, and they'll receive excellent care."

Outside of work, Devere can be found spending time with her husband, two sons and two dogs. She enjoys being outdoors, running, walking and cycling.
