Katherine Brown, DO, became interested in medicine at a young age after seeing how much her mother loved being a nurse.
“I knew I wanted a career that helped people and their families by improving their health and well-being,” said Dr. Brown, a vascular surgeon with Methodist Physicians Clinic.
She decided early on that she wanted to work in surgery because she was fascinated by surgical procedures. Dr. Brown was drawn toward vascular surgery in medical school because of its complexity and variety.
“Every day is different. Every patient is different,” she said. “There’s never anything that’s run-of-the-mill with vascular surgery. I also really love and think that I can connect with that patient population.”
While she has an interest for most aspects of vascular surgery, Dr. Brown is particularly interested in limb salvage and peripheral arterial disease.
“It’s really a whole host of treatment that’s important to help save someone’s limb – and that’s very important to me,” she said. “It’s not just one surgery. It’s really about trying to care for the whole patient.”
Dr. Brown believes that Methodist has a lineup of talented of providers and access to necessary resources to provide holistic care for patients.
“You can’t do this by yourself, so I find meaning in working with a team of people to help patients have the best outcomes possible,” she said.
Outside of work, Dr. Brown enjoys spending time with family, working in her garden and reading.
