Kate Kollars, MD, solidified her career path in college, when her father was diagnosed with early-onset dementia.

“I saw what a difference that caring physicians could make even when a disease isn’t curable, and I realized I wanted to work with patients as they cope with and overcome health challenges,” said Dr. Kollars, who specializes in family medicine at Methodist Physicians Clinic.

With a particular interest in adolescent medicine and reproductive health, Dr. Kollars is especially passionate about caring for patients of all ages and working with them throughout their lives. The bilingual physician also enjoys providing gender-affirming care for the LGBTQ+ community and performs in-office procedures, including skin biopsies, joint injections, contraceptive implants and IUD placements and removals.

“My favorite thing about my profession is working with patients over time and having the privilege to see how they grow and change,” she said. “My job is really just to guide folks on their journey toward better health and well-being, and it’s so rewarding to support them along the way.”

A relationship that’s open and honest is key to better health, she said, and she wants her patients to know that she’ll never stop striving to be just that.

“I have to develop trust with my patients in order for me to know and address their deepest concerns or worries,” she said. “Medicine can be more of an art than a science, and a trusting relationship is vital to navigate the ups and downs of various health challenges.”

In her free time, Dr. Kollars – a Sioux City native – enjoys traveling with her husband, trying new restaurants, hiking, painting and reading.
