Kacey Anthone, DNP, APRN, AGNP-C, OCN, began her health care career as a nurse at Methodist Hospital, which fueled her passion for cancer care and, eventually, gynecologic (GYN) cancer care.
While studying to become a nurse practitioner, Anthone worked as an oncology research nurse navigator, closely following numerous GYN cancer patients enrolled in clinical trials.
Her favorite career moment came when one of her former GYN patients – who has since passed away – visited her with news that she would be stopping all treatment following disease progression. Despite the sad update, the visit was meant to serve as a thank-you for the personalized care that Anthone had provided, prompting many tears and hugs between the nurse and patient.
"I knew we had formed a special nurse-patient relationship," said Anthone, now a GYN oncology nurse practitioner at Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center, "but that moment really confirmed just how special she thought it was, as well."
Anthone wants each of her patients to know that she genuinely cares about their experience at Methodist. And she's honored to provide The Meaning of Care alongside so many other professionals who share her values.
"For me, The Meaning of Care is approaching patients and their families as individuals," Anthone said. "Every patient has a different situation and deserves a unique approach to their plan of care. Understanding and subsequently applying this is essential to everything we do at Methodist."
When she's not caring for patients, Anthone enjoys spending time with her family, reading and golfing.
