Jamie Gustafson, MD, is passionate about women's health care and advocates for believing women when they describe pain or illness.

"I'm going to believe every woman who comes into my office," she said. "Pelvic pain is a specific area where sometimes women get brushed off. But taking the time to actually listen to women, doing a thorough exam and trying to create a plan to help women, I think, is very important."

Dr. Gustafson became interested in women's health while on a mission trip in Mexico during her first year of medical school. But it wasn't until she observed her first cesarean section during a med school rotation that she decided to become an OB/GYN.

"Delivering babies is very exciting and rewarding," she said. "Every time I do it, I'm like 'This is such a miracle.' But developing a relationship every year when a patient comes in for an annual exam is also very rewarding."

Now an OB/GYN at Methodist Physicians Clinic Women's Center, Dr. Gustafson believes the foundation of any relationship with patients is trust. She builds that trust by carefully going through each step with them – showing them the ultrasound or pathology report to make sure every question is answered.
