Heather Lechnowsky, MD, worked at a nursing home during college and was inspired to pursue a career in which she could help people.
As a nephrologist at Methodist Physicians Clinic – Nephrology, Dr. Lechnowsky believes the most important part of her job is educating patients and their families.
“Full communication is so important,” she said. “It inspires confidence in the patient that they can be successful. And it helps family members understand exactly what’s going on.”
Dr. Lechnowsky works to empower patients to ask questions confidently and be engaged in their health care.
“Sometimes patients have good ideas that you haven’t thought about,” she said. “There’s always an opportunity when you have an interaction with a patient for both parties to be educated.”
She enjoys interacting with patients and providers across a variety of specialties.
“Nephrology plays into every organ system,” she said. “That’s why we work with a lot of other specialists. Cardiac patients often see nephrologists. People with liver disease often see nephrologists. We take care of refractory hypertension. People with pulmonary diseases see nephrologists. Endocrinology. And autoimmune diseases. We cross into just about every subspecialty in medicine.”
When she’s not seeing patients in the clinic or at the hospital, Dr. Lechnowsky enjoys cooking, walking her dogs, going on vacation and spending time with family.

Dr Heather is my favorite doc. She listens and explains and involves me my health care needs and concerns and decisions. I have had a great doc/patient relationship with her for 12 plus years and will greatly miss her when she retires!!

I would not have anyone but Dr. Heather L .to help me with my kidney issues. She is a blessing to me at this stage of my life. She has eased some concerns I have and has willingly answered the strangest questions for me. What kind of doctor wants to take the time to do that? All I can say is thankyou.

I am very pleased with Dr. Lechnowski. She is extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. I ask a lot of questions and she never acts irritated or in a hurry. She always takes time to answer questions and to explain her recommendations in the detail I need.

Dr. Lechnowsky is one of a kind! She always puts me at ease. She asks me about my family. I always leave feeling better than when I came. Sometimes I am nervous before I go to other appointments, but I always look forward to my appointments with Dr Lechnowsky. She is an excellent doctor. I would come for a visit every week, but of course my Insurance wouldn't allow It!
