Francine Bontao, APRN, AGNP-C, discovered her passion for medicine early in her nursing career.

“I’ve always enjoyed taking care of people and being someone they can trust during difficult times,” said Bontao, a nurse practitioner at Methodist Physicians Clinic - Nephrology.

Her interest in nephrology grew while caring for dialysis patients. She especially valued getting to know her patients over time and building relationships with them and their families.

“Working with dialysis patients showed me how important it is to really listen and get to know the person behind the diagnosis,” she said. “I want my patients to feel comfortable asking questions and know that their concerns are being heard.”

Bontao cares for patients with chronic kidney disease and is fluent in Tagalog and Bisaya. She believes that listening, clear communication and trust are important parts of providing good care.

“It’s rewarding when patients feel heard, understand what’s going on with their health and leave feeling more comfortable about their care,” she said.

Outside of work, Bontao enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, exploring new places and staying active.
