Erica Aflagah, PhD, was drawn to psychology in college and quickly determined her specialty after shadowing a neuropsychologist.

"I loved my experience and knew it was something I could see myself doing as a career," said Aflagah, a neuropsychologist at Methodist Physicians Clinic.

She's especially passionate about the diagnostic process – or what she calls "detective work" – as well as patient and family education. She appreciates that Methodist values her well-being as a provider, which optimizes her ability to provide the best patient care through The Meaning of Care.

"To me, The Meaning of Care is different for every patient," she said. "My goal is to understand the specific questions or concerns that brought them to my clinic. In that way, we can tailor our time together to best address the issues most important to them and their family."

Aflagah fosters trust with her patients by prioritizing thorough explanations, active listening and frequent check-ins.

"I realize that neuropsychological evaluations can be anxiety-provoking," she said. "I will do my best to make you feel as comfortable as possible and answer your questions all throughout the process."

In her free time, the South Dakota native enjoys being with her family and engaging in various sports ñ competitively and leisurely.
