Eric D. Hilker, MD

Eric Hilker, MD, was inspired from a young age to pursue a career in medicine.

“Growing up, I got to hear stories about my mom and grandfather, who both practiced medicine,” he said. “My mom was very passionate about her career, and I loved hearing about her work and the fulfillment she received. She had so much kindness to give.”

Dr. Hilker specializes in internal medicine at Methodist Physicians Clinic. He enjoys preventive medicine and caring for patients with diabetes, asthma, COPD and cardiovascular conditions.

But his favorite part of the job?

“Honestly, it's the relationships with patients,” he said. “You get to be their point person in their time of need. You get to help them navigate the health care system. You get to help them navigate chronic diseases. You get to be there in all those moments where it can be joyful or difficult. That’s very fulfilling to me.”

Dr. Hilker believes building those relationships leads to a positive ripple effect – The Meaning of Care that Methodist is known for.

“No matter their social circumstances, no matter their backgrounds, we always try to put ourselves in their shoes. And we treat them with respect and dignity. And when we treat patients like that, we’re also helping out the family and community. We're raising our community's health.”

When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Hilker enjoys family time – going for walks, running, golfing and visiting the zoo.
