Corey Allmendinger, LADC, PLCSW, was drawn to a career in behavioral health following his own sobriety journey.

“I was roughly two years sober when I felt called to pursue a career in the helping field,” he said. “I did some research and eventually enrolled in classes.”

Allmendinger, a social worker and licensed drug and alcohol counselor with Methodist Fremont Health Behavioral Health, is especially passionate about helping people dealing with crises or experiencing challenges related to substance use. He’s equally invested in working with those who’ve been in the criminal justice system.

One of his favorite career moments came when he was assigned to lead a team of correctional center counselors and support staff caught in a “culture full of toxic behaviors.” Through individualized coaching, Allmendinger was able to quickly create a healthy environment, in which opinions were valued and challenges were addressed respectfully.

The best part of his job, he said, is “seeing people begin to glow again and enjoy life” – something largely made possible through The Meaning of Care.

“It’s about allowing the individual to drive their treatment whenever possible while treating them with dignity and respect,” he said. “It’s about offering unbiased care in an equitable, empathetic and holistic manner.”

In his free time, Allmendinger is active in the lives of his eight daughters and grandson. He also enjoys hiking, camping, traveling and experiencing new things.
