While he knew he wanted to pursue a career path in medicine at a young age, interventional cardiologist Charles Olson, MD, didn't determine his specialty until medical school. But it was simple, he said.

"I realized there were a lot of people with heart disease, and I saw that there'd be a lot of chances to help people."

The most gratifying part of his career has been witnessing the advancements in cardiac technology and treatment, especially as they relate to heart attack patients. These people are often discharged from the hospital just a day or two after their medical emergency.

"Some of those same patients – 25 or 30 years ago, when I did my training ñ would have become very sick and possibly not survive their heart attack," he said.

Dr. Olson is inspired by the level of care his patients receive throughout Methodist Health System. The Meaning of Care, he said, "is a good description of what patients tell me they experience."

"They feel like they're given personalized care," he added. "And that they're not just another patient in the queue to be taken care of."

He completed medical school and his residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and he currently sees patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic Westroads Office Park.

Married with three children, Dr. Olson enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He's also an avid golfer.
