Brooke Hancock, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, credits her mother for being the greatest influence on her decision to work in health care.

“She set an inspiring example of how to compassionately care for women,” Hancock said. “It was always part of what I wanted to do in life.”

A nurse practitioner specializing in OB/GYN at Methodist Physicians Clinic Women’s Center, Hancock has always been drawn to caring for women during pregnancy and childbirth.

“As I’ve grown as a nurse, I’ve found fulfillment in caring for patients across the lifespan, but I’ve always found myself drawn back to women’s health,” she said.

Hancock believes the best part of her job is being able to help others.

“I enjoy being able to take time to explain something fully to ensure that the patient understands and has had time to ask any questions,” she said. “I also love being able to be a safe person for patients to express their concerns to.”

To her, The Meaning of Care “goes well beyond competence in performing health care.”

“It’s establishing excellence in treatment options, preventive medicine, communication and compassion, and ensuring that every patient is treated the way we would want our families to be treated,” she said.

Hancock said there have been many memorable moments during her career, but one that stands out involved helping someone with residual anxiety through a difficult labor and delivery.

“To see the relief on her face was very rewarding.”

Outside of work, Hancock enjoys being a wife and mother. She also loves animals and mountains.
