He earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, where he played football for four years. He completed his medical training and surgical residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
For Dr. Winterstein, listening is a key part of his relationships with patients.
"I most enjoy just talking with patients," he said. "I don't think in this day and age they get as much listening as they should. It's probably the best thing that I can do for them, and it helps me work through their problems."
Dr. Winterstein believes each patient has unique needs. He has no "cookie-cutter" solutions and realizes surgery may not always be the right decision for a patient.
"I think The Meaning of Care really comes down to the individual approach I give to everybody," he said. "Taking the whole person in mind, not just the individual problem."
In his free time, he enjoys being with his family and cheering on his children at athletic events.

Dr Winterstein was amazing. He did a great job explaining everything from beginning to end. When I had questions he answered them in a way that I could understand. I had an excellent experience with Dr. Winterstein. He was incredibly professional and had a great bedside manner from start to finish. He was very accommodating and made sure I felt comfortable throughout my visit. Most importantly, he took the time to explain everything clearly, answering all my questions without ever making me feel rushed. I truly appreciate the care and attention he provided.
