Ann Porter, PA-C, developed a passion for medicine and helping others after she assisted with the care of her grandpa when she was 11.

Porter, a physician assistant specializing in vascular surgery at Methodist Physicians Clinic, says that the best parts of her job are seeing patients before surgery, helping them in the operating room and following up with them postoperatively.

"The closed loop of care is so important for patients," she said. "And I love being there for them every step of the way."

Porter wants patients to know that she hopes to provide comfort during difficult circumstances.

She believes that The Meaning of Care means "putting the patient and their needs first and treating them with the utmost respect, dignity and compassion."

One way of putting the patient first, she said, is by communicating openly about diagnoses and treatment plans in terms that they can understand.

Outside of work, Porter enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking and trying new foods, working out, and traveling.
