Ann Narmi, MD, has spent most of her life living in Council Bluffs and is passionate about providing cardiovascular care in her hometown.

“I think that we have the capabilities to do this is in southwest Iowa, and that’s where patients want to be best served,” she said.

As an interventional cardiologist with Methodist Physicians Clinic in Council Bluffs, Dr. Narmi enjoys being able to treat someone in an urgent or emergent setting and help them get back to their normal life. She believes that she can’t provide that care without a team effort.

“It's important to have a solid team in the cath lab as well as in the clinic setting, because one person can’t guide a patient’s treatment. It takes multiple people,” she said. “I do my job to the best of my ability, but I can’t do my job without nurses, radiation techs and all the other ancillary staff. It takes a full, diverse team to treat the patient fully and have the best outcome.”

Dr. Narmi said that advancements in cardiology allow her to provide optimal care.

“One of the things I like about cardiology and the field of interventional cardiology is the dynamic changes,” she said. “There’s constant new research that comes out and it changes how we practice medicine.”

As a female cardiologist, she also believes she’s uniquely equipped to care for female patients.

“One thing I think I can provide as a female cardiologist is that special need that women have when talking about cardiovascular issues. Women can present different and sometimes require different treatment.”

When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Narmi is busy with the activities of her three adolescent boys. She also enjoys playing the piano, working on puzzles, painting and skiing.
