Andrea Garrett, APRN, believes that communication and transparency are essential for her to properly care for patients and their families.

“I build relationships by being attentive to every patient’s needs and available to answer questions they may have,” said Garrett, a nurse practitioner for vascular surgery at Methodist Physicians Clinic. “I treat each patient as an individual and plan their care around their needs.”

Garrett worked for seven years as a cardiovascular nurse before completing an advanced degree and transitioning into her current role with vascular surgery.

Her favorite part of working in health care is connecting with patients and their families.

“My career allows me to meet and interact with people that I may not otherwise,” she said. “I get to be one of the many who can help give them a better quality of life and be a source of knowledge and strength for them.”

She also enjoys collaborating with the rest of the vascular surgery staff to ensure that each of their patients are well taken care of. She believes The Meaning of Care sets a standard for Methodist staff to follow.

“It means that the system is focused on the health and well-being of its patients by striving for excellence in care,” she said.

Outside of work, Garrett enjoys spending time with family and friends, taking care of her yard and garden, traveling, and camping. She also has two dogs – a German shepherd and a redbone coonhound.
