As a women’s health nurse practitioner, Amy Stertz, MSN, APRN, WHNP-BC, loves having the opportunity to educate and support women every day.

“I especially enjoy working with young women and educating them about their bodies,” said Stertz, who sees patients at Methodist Physicians Clinic Women’s Center. “Many young women aren’t given much education about their reproductive and sexual health. I enjoy giving my patients a judgment-free space where they can ask any questions.”

Stertz spent four years as a labor and delivery nurse and “loved helping families on one of the most important days of their lives,” but she realized her true passion was longer-term care and building relationships with patients.

“As a women’s health provider, I understand that sometimes the problems my patients come to me with are sensitive and personal,” she said. “My patients can expect individualized and compassionate care, and I want them to know that I will always respect their privacy and strive to make them feel comfortable.”

She added: “I love finding a treatment that’s tailored to each patient. For example, there are a vast number of birth control options available. I like diving into each patient's lifestyle and goals to find a method that best fits their needs.”

Outside of work, Stertz enjoys traveling with her husband and dogs, and completing DIY home improvement projects.
