Amanda C. Thies, APRN

Amanda Thies, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, has had a passion for helping others since childhood. And after volunteering in high school at a summer camp for children with rare diseases, she knew where she would channel her energy: medicine. Thies, a nurse practitioner specializing in cardiothoracic surgery at Methodist Physicians Clinic, started her nursing career on a cardiac specialty unit, then worked on an intensive care unit (ICU).

"The experience was humbling and something I never took for granted," she said. "It was an amazing opportunity to help individuals through a vulnerable time and help improve their health and quality of life."

Thies believes patient-centered care, strong communication and patient and family involvement are key to the best health outcomes.

"I enjoy the patient and family interaction," she said. "I truly enjoy taking the time getting to know each patient and family member. I want patients to feel comfortable, ask questions and feel that they're part of the decision-making process and educated about their plan of care."

In her free time, Thies enjoys spending time with her family, working out, traveling, attending concerts and cheering for the Husker football team.
