Carleigh Golden, MD, was inspired to become a physician after watching doctors help save the lives of her father, who experienced a major heart attack and an open-heart surgery, and her niece, who was born several weeks premature.
"I got to witness the amazing things medicine can do and I knew that was what I was meant to do," she said.
As an internal medicine physician with Methodist Physicians Clinic, Dr. Golden enjoys building relationships with patients and their families.
"It's really important to have that continuity of care and to be able to have that relationship with somebody who you trust, truly knows you and has your goals in mind," she said.
Dr. Golden chose internal medicine as her specialty because of the diversity of health care topics; she knew that she'd never get bored. She has particular interest in women's health, preventive medicine and dermatology.
She likes educating her patients on how they can stay healthy, achieve their health goals and prevent disease.
"I'm a firm believer in individualized care," she said. "It's not a one-size-fits-all."
When she's not meeting with patients, Dr. Golden enjoys spending time outside with her family at either their acreage near Council Bluffs or at their cabin in Minnesota.

I was very lucky when I was referred to Dr. Golden from my cardiologist Dr. Mentzer. Dr. Golden listens and cares about what I have going on and even my past struggles these last two years.
