For Andrea VerMaas, MD, family is everything ñ whether it's her own or the patients she cares for.
"Every patient is a family member to me," said Dr. VerMaas, a family medicine physician at Methodist Physicians Clinic. "I treat them like they're my daughter, my son, my mother. And my patients tell me that I don't sugarcoat things. I tell it like it is, and I think they appreciate that."
Those sometimes frank discussions only occur after forming a relationship built on trust and listening.
"A patient is just like anyone else," Dr. VerMaas said. "They don't want to tell you everything. They give you little tidbits. But the more comfortable they are with you and know that you're their advocate and friend, they're more likely to tell you the truth. By listening to the patient, the care is better."
Dr. VerMaas is proud to see patients of all ages and multiple generations within the same family, caring for a range of conditions. She also performs procedures including colonoscopies, endoscopies, endometrial biopsies, birth control placement, skin evaluations and surgical removals, cryotherapy, and Botox and fillers.
Outside of the office, she and her family can be found exploring Nebraska, participating in youth sports and seeking new outdoor adventures. She is also active in the YMCA and stays busy by biking, playing volleyball and taking part in water sports.
"You can see me on a cross country course, on a basketball court, on a wrestling mat or at a swimming pool," she said. "Whether it's my child or someone I take care of, I will be cheering them on."

Dr. VerMaas, always goes above and beyond outstanding and is so caring. She gets the job done when it needs to be done! She is an excellent "LISTENER", and cares deeply about what I say to come up with a perfect action plan for me! You certainly don't want to lose a Doctor of that caliber. I give her a 10+++

I was actually late due to road work on my way to Fremont. They still took me right away.We have moved 2 hours away but still go to Fremont/Dr. Vermaas for our medical care. We wouldn't consider going to anyone else.

Dr. VerMaas asked a lot of questions and provided excellent suggestions of items to avoid and how to best treat the issue with medication and at home treatments. She also identified another issue during the exam and provided a solution to that as well. She is professional and personable, we always have a great visit!
